Elon Musk said on Friday that Tesla will stop building the Cybertruck around the middle of next year. In a post on X, he wrote that Tesla "will be winding down production of the Cybertruck at Gigafactory Texas around the middle of next year" to "make room for increased Cybercab production". The Texas factory is the only plant that builds the truck.
Musk claimed in 2023 that Tesla would sell 250,000 Cybertrucks a year, and the line in Texas was built for that number. Tesla now builds about 30,000 a year, roughly 12% of the plan and a quarter of the more than 125,000 trucks a year Tesla says it has the machinery for.
Tesla sold 20,237 Cybertrucks in 2025, about half of the 38,965 it sold in 2024. Cox Automotive estimates it sold 3,519 in the US in the first three months of 2026 and 3,744 in the next three, against 14,416 in a single quarter of 2024.
