Donald Trump announced on Thursday evening that his Board of Peace had reached what he called a historic agreement for the complete disarmament of Hamas and all other armed groups in Gaza. Senior Hamas officials confirmed it to the BBC and to AFP, and Al Jazeera obtained a copy of the document agreed by Hamas and the other Palestinian factions, which stipulates that a precise disarmament roadmap must be prepared within fourteen days. Israel had rejected the plan earlier that same day, and refused the concept of withdrawing from Gaza.

The terms require Hamas to decommission heavy and light weapons over six to eight months and to hand over maps of its tunnel networks, weapons production facilities and arms depots, with the weapons placed into storage under the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza. Israeli forces withdraw in phases as this proceeds, and a Board of Peace official said the whole thing was designed around zero trust, with no stage advancing until monitors verify both sides have met their obligations.
