Meta's automated systems suspended the No Kings Coalition's Instagram account on Saturday afternoon, in the middle of a national day of action at some 3,000 events and 17 days before the midterms. The page was gone for about 90 minutes at peak turnout, during the coalition's livestream, and the organisers who run it were locked out until 5:33 pm New York time.
Meta spokesman Andy Stone said on Saturday that accounts posting at very high frequency "can trigger automated systems" and that the suspension was an error. On Sunday he gave a different reason, a Claude tool reading profiles, posts and hashtags at four times the normal rate. He did not say who ran the tool or what it had to do with No Kings.
It is the latest in a run of Meta mistakes since Donald Trump returned to power, and every one of them has hit the people organising against Trump and the far right, or helped the right directly.
