Democrats have won control of the House and the Senate, ending two years in which Republicans in Congress passed whatever Donald Trump asked of them. Decision Desk HQ projected the House for Democrats at 9:09pm ET on Tuesday, and the Senate at about 11:30pm ET.
Republicans lost because of Trump's regime, and voters said so on their way out of the polls. Only 38% of voters approved of him, the lowest for a sitting president on election day in nearly two decades, 65% said his policies had made the economy worse, 65% said his tariffs had hurt it, and nearly half said their vote was a rebuke of Trump.
Democrats went into the election with 215 House seats and needed a net gain of three. They are on course for at least 252 seats, a 69-seat majority and the party's largest in nearly two decades. Hakeem Jeffries is set to become the first Black Speaker of the House in January.
